Occasionally Caley and I will talk about a grocery store tip she heard a few years ago: Shop on the perimeter of the store. The reason being is most of your processed foods are in the center aisles while your fruits, vegetables, and meats are on the outsides.
If there is one aisle that will attack your taste buds like a hyena- it’s the cereal aisle. Whether it’s Fruity Pebbles, Cocoa Puffs, or Honey Combs, the memories of my childhood return to me on this aisle and I am tempted to bring them all home with me.
Until I look at the nutritional information.
Lucky Charms has 10 grams of sugar. Frosted Mini-Wheats has 11. Post Raisin Bran contains a staggering 20 grams! Even Bear Naked fruit and nut granola—a seemingly healthy choice—clocks in at six, the same as Honey Bunches of Oats. Most cereal, even granola, is a shockingly not-so-great way to start the day.- GQ
So what is the healthy choice? Old fashioned Cheerios…
Here is why: A serving of Cheerios has only one gram of sugar and is low in calories. In addition, the primary ingredient is whole-grain oats.
It’s easy to grab what our taste buds desire, especially if cereal is your weapon of choice for the mornings, but consider grabbing the big yellow box. I know theres no comparison to a huge bowl of Cocoa Puffs, but it’s worth it.
