Talk is cheap // Chronological Bible Reading

tumblr_m1oe56SvIp1qi4eyro1_500Today’s Reading Jeremiah 2-5:19

There is not a day that goes by that promises are made and then not kept. Whether we personally choose to go against our own words or someone does the same to us. It’s sad but it’s the world we live in.

But it doesn’t make it right.

We have all heard the phrase “talk is cheap.” Judah and Israel were known for it. Humanity is known for it.

Saying one thing and doing another doesn’t fit into God’s plan for our relationship with Him or each other. It shows the true status of our heart. For Judah and Israel all they had to dowas allow their words to be backed up by their actions. Better yet their hearts.

It was God’s desire for them and us.

Jeremiah 4
1 “O Israel,” says the Lord,
“if you wanted to return to me, you could.
You could throw away your detestable idols
and stray away no more.
2 Then when you swear by my name, saying,
‘As surely as the Lord lives,’
you could do so
with truth, justice, and righteousness.
Then you would be a blessing to the nations of the world,
and all people would come and praise my name.”

Grab ahold of the cause and affect:

-If you want to return to me then throw away your old life.
-Swear by my name.

-Then you will be a blessing.
-People will know God.

Today as we live our lives may we allow God to have a place in our heart not just with our words. Judah and Israel walked around with a religious attitude not rooted in God’s love. They were all talk. But if we swear to live by HIS name and live with truth, justice and righteousness in mind, the effect is undeniable. We will be a blessing to the entire world and we will have a genuine relationship with God. In addition, people will know God by our actions.

3 This is what the Lord says to the people of Judah and Jerusalem:
“Plow up the hard ground of your hearts!
Do not waste your good seed among thorns.
4 O people of Judah and Jerusalem,
surrender your pride and power.
Change your hearts before the Lord,[a]

Israel and Judah had the opportunity to surrender their heart by turning in their pride and their pursuit of power. The invitation is open to us today.

Talk is cheap so today let’s back our prayers and words of affirmation for God with our actions. No matter what happens today let’s set the goal to deal with God and people notcheaply but righteously.

Let’s make God be the center piece of our interactions with others.
Representing Him in such a way- the Gospel message is the center piece of it all.
Let’s make God famous today with our words and actions.
