Today’s Reading: Psalm 42-46
Today we celebrate.
Today we remember.
How our nation was birthed.
There is no denying God’s hand in the process of our great country’s survival.
So as we celebrate, can you imagine the FAITH our forefathers had to possess?
Wondering if their cause would be successful? Doubting it at times. Wondering if God approved?
I can imagine those who loved God coming across today’s reading…when times were tough.
1 As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God.
2 I thirst for God, the living God.
For this particular author the living God was the source of his life and he could not live without Him. He was on a quest for God’s presence. He longed for it. Just as we long for it. Just as our founding father’s longed for it.
Pain can cause feelings of separation. Circumstances can cause feelings of doubt.
But then we are reminded. Like our God, unwilling to allow anything to separate us from Him, our forefather’s were unwilling to give up their dream for freedom.
We are reminded.
1 God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.
2 So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea.
3 Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!
10 “Be still, and know that I am God!
11 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress.
He is our refuge right now. Right where we are. No matter the situation.
So may we remain STILL in His presence.
That word literally means to RELAX. He allows us to feel the way we feel to be in what we are in so we can RELAX and TRUST.
Today like everyday we celebrate God’s love and His hand of protection not only on our lives but our great country.
When the fireworks explode and the grills are hot, let’s BE STILL and remember those who have given their life for this moment in time.
And there is no greater example than God Himself.
Be still. Be still, and know that I am YOUR God!
