A blast from the past // Chronological Bible Reading

Today’s Reading: Joshua 12-15:19

braveheart-4e8f68b7Think of Braveheart – but with your grandfather…

That’s what is taking place in Joshua 14:10-15

Remember back in Numbers 13 when Moses sent the scouts into Canaan to see what kind of obstacles they were up against and every one of them, but Joshua and Caleb, were upset and scared of what the land possessed?

Here in Joshua 14, Caleb at the age of 85 is ready to receive his plot of land in the Promise Land and what land does he want? The same land he walked some 45 years before. On this day he will do what should have been done the first time he was there…he will go and defeat the Anakites (giants).

Joshua 14: 11 I am as strong now as I was when Moses sent me on that journey, and I can still travel and fight as well as I could then. 12 So give me the hill country that the Lord promised me.

What is interesting about Caleb is no where in the Bible does it mention Caleb was a great warrior. What he did posses was FAITH and PASSION, two essential leadership skills for any leader.

He was BRAVE.

As we see Caleb take the land he was promised; the land that caused so much pain for the Israelites. Caleb teaches us leadership has less to do with with age and more to do with our HEART.

Caleb was brave, so brave at the age of 85 he defeated giants.

What giants do you need to defeat today?
Caleb didn’t believe in excuses and neither should we.
