This past sunday in Amplify (our middle/high school discipleship class) we talked about the power of opportunity. Everything in life we can either see as a task or opportunity. We can see the decisions in life as a to do list item or a once in a lifetime opportunity.
God gives each of us 86,400 seconds every single day and its up to us what we do with them. If you’re a student and you’re at school for 6 hours you only get 21, 600 seconds or 21,600 opportunities. If you work a 8 hour shift you only get 28,800 seconds or 28,800 opportunities.Opportunities are all we have and what we do with them is up to us.
Ephesians 5:15-16 Be very careful how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity…
So many times it’s easy for us to be selfish with our time and find it easier to give an excuse and see something as a task rather than a opportunity.
We all need to be able to say “no” to somethings to make sure our priorities are in line. No one needs to be a “yes man” all the time. But, the only way to be used by God correctly is by understanding the power of every opportunity He gives us. If we find it easier to say “no” instead of praying are we pleasing God? If we find it easier to say “no” instead of putting ourselves out there to be used are we pleasing God? If we are selfish with our time are we really pleasing God?
It’s time we we look at every second, every decision, every event, not as a task; but as a opportunity. Just think how this would change everything… The guy at your work who bothers you- not a pest, but an opportunity. The opportunity to pass out flyers early on a Saturday morning- not a task, but a opportunity. Opening up about our faith -not a task, but a opportunity….
