Rhythm Devo P.3 Joy

Last night was the last chapter in our Rhythm Series and we discussed how we can connect to the JOY of christmas. We discussed Matthew chapter 2 and how, even though Jesus is the center of the Christmas story, in this particular section of the text you have two competing JOYS by two competing groups of characters.

The Wise Men and King Herod.

The Wise Men were willing to drop everything and focus on Emmanuel aka “God with us” when King Herod was stuck on what was most important to him, which was his stuff.  The Wise Men were willing to travel a third of the globe to experience the opportunity to celebrate the birth of Christ. King Herod was so focused on his power that he missed out on a opportunity of a life time.

Its very clear during the Christmas season we can either find our JOY in Jesus or in our stuff.

We can find our JOY in PRESENTS, which is also known as CONSUMERISM.
We can find our JOY in His PRESENCE.

The choice is ours so lets choose a different path this Christmas. Lets choose Jesus and focus on the true RHYTHM of Christmas.

Tuesday, December 21st Luke 1:46-55

Thursday, December 23rd: Philippians 2:1-5
Friday, December 24th: Psalm. 98:1-6
Saturday, December 18th: Luke 2

Think: Take time to evaluate your heart. Last night I asked the question if you received nothing for Christmas would you grade this year as a failure? If so you need to evaluate your heart because obviously your JOY has been misdirected. Take time this year to focus  on what’s most important by figuring out new ways to celebrate Jesus in ways that focus more on Him then just what’s under the tree.

Pray: Ask God to help you fight any hint of consumerism. Pray for guidance as you journey through the amazing celebration of our Savior’s birth.

Live: Show people the reason for the season.
